Not Actively Looking? How to Explore OT Opportunities Privately

You may be happy where you work and still have a clear idea of what would make you consider a move. A different technical challenge, less travel or the chance to build a team can be worth a conversation long before you decide to apply anywhere.

Start by setting the boundaries of that conversation. A recruiter should understand what interests you, what would rule a role out and how you want to be contacted. You can be specific without committing to a search.

Describe what would make a conversation worthwhile

Think about the work you would like to do more of and the circumstances you would want to change. 'Open to the right role' gives a recruiter little to work with. 'I want to stay close to engineering, cover fewer sites and keep overnight travel occasional' is much more useful. Include responsibilities, location, compensation expectations and the practical limits you know now.

Separate preferences from firm boundaries. You might prefer a certain industry while being unwilling to relocate. You might consider a leadership position only if it includes hiring authority. Explain those distinctions early so a promising title does not turn into a conversation about a role you could never accept.

Choose how the conversation reaches you

Use personal contact information and choose a time and channel that work for you. Tell the recruiter if messages should be brief, if calls need to be scheduled or if there are periods when you cannot respond. Keep recruiting documents and meetings separate from employer devices, accounts and shared calendars.

Before an introduction, ask who would receive your information and what would be sent. Review how your experience is being described, particularly where a project or unusual responsibility could identify a client or site. Agree on the next step before the recruiter takes it. A useful privacy conversation deals with the actual disclosure, including the recipient and the material involved.

Choose the role suggestions you want from Zylarity

Zylarity's candidate form lets you share your experience and select your future role contact preference. You can choose no new role suggestions, suitable roles not published on Zylarity, or all suitable roles. The form explains the choice before you submit. Contact about your profile or an active request is handled separately from permission to suggest new roles.

Choosing roles not published on Zylarity means you may hear about suitable opportunities that are not on our public jobs page. It does not reserve a position or commit you to pursuing one. If an opportunity interests you, we discuss the role and your interest before representing you to an employer, as described on our Professionals page.

You can return through Update My Profile or Interests to review your details and contact preferences. If your situation changes, update the information that would affect a match. You can also use the request deletion or stop contact option within that area.

Share enough to be understood

A useful introduction explains the environments you have worked in, the decisions you owned and what you want next. You can describe those things without disclosing confidential diagrams, client documents, credentials or internal problems. Generalize sensitive site details and explain any limits on what you can discuss.

For example, you could describe responsibility for reviewing remote access across several manufacturing sites, including the approvals and operating constraints involved. You would not need to send the access design or name the sites to begin a recruiting conversation. If deeper detail becomes relevant later, discuss what can appropriately be shared at that stage.

Keep the conversation current at a pace that suits you. A change in travel availability, a completed project or a different career goal may be more useful than a full resume rewrite. When a role does deserve a closer look, you and the recruiter will already have a practical starting point for deciding whether to proceed.

Introduce yourself when you are ready and choose whether you want Zylarity to suggest suitable roles.
